2026 marks the transition of the NIS2 Directive—transposed in Italy through Legislative Decree 138/2024—into its fully operational and sanctionable phase.

As of January 1, 2026, organizations are required to notify “significant” incidents to CSIRT Italy (National Cybersecurity Agency). By October 1, 2026, companies must have implemented all required technical and organizational measures, including governance and risk management frameworks, business continuity plans, supply chain security controls, and comprehensive staff training.
