Milan–Cortina Olympics: Yarix issues an alert on possible DDoS attacks against Italian websites The NoName057(16) group involved

TREVISO, February 4, 2026 – Yarix, the cybersecurity center of excellence of Var Group, reports a cyber threat campaign attributed to the NoName057(16) group, known for geopolitically motivated hacktivist activities, which has declared its intention to target Italian assets linked to the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Monitoring activities have intercepted communications and operational signals indicating the possibility of attacks (DDoS and digital service disruption actions) against sites considered symbolic or strategic in the context of the Olympic event. These include institutional portals—such as the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) portal dedicated to booking consular appointments—as well as websites of hospitality facilities in the region.
On its Telegram channel, the NoName057(16) group has shared updates regarding the mobilization of its members against these sites, accompanied by photos allegedly showing unauthorized access to surveillance cameras.
“Major international events have always been a prime target for hacktivist groups and hostile actors, due to both media visibility and reputational impact,” said Mirko Gatto, Head of Cybersecurity at Var Group. “Early identification of these threats is essential to allow organizations to strengthen their defenses and prepare for possible escalation.”
The NoName057(16) group is already known for previous campaigns against public and private infrastructures in several European countries, carried out primarily with the aim of disrupting online services and generating operational instability rather than stealing data.
Yarix (Var Group) recommends the following preventive measures for potentially affected targets:
-
strengthen anti-DDoS defenses;
-
increase monitoring of Internet-exposed services;
-
review incident response plans in preparation for the Olympic event.
